Mark Purdon is Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy, Social and Environmental Responsibility at the School of Management (ESG), Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM), where he has held the Chair on Decarbonization.

A specialist in comparative climate change politics with a PhD in political science, his research examines the links between decarbonization and political economy, with particular attention to carbon markets, climate finance, and global climate governance.

His applied work includes advising legislative committees, regulators, and public agencies in Canada and abroad on carbon markets and climate finance.

His book The Political Economy of Climate Finance Effectiveness in Developing Countries was published by Oxford University Press in 2024, and he is co-editor of the forthcoming Carbon Federalism: Canadian Climate Governance in a Changing World (University of Toronto Press).

His current research addresses the integration of international climate finance, carbon markets, and green industrial policy.
