Ed Whittingham is a passionate public policy professional working to cool the planet in our lifetimes. His background in climate and energy policy, cleantech finance and carbon removal has been developed through 25 years of working collaboratively with companies, governments, universities and NGOs in Canada and internationally. He has served as the CEO of the Pembina Institute, Canada’s widely respected energy/environment NGO, a director of the Alberta Energy Regulator, and a member of the World Economic Forum's global agenda council. In 2016 Ed was named one of Alberta’s 50 Most Influential People by Alberta Venture magazine, and he hosts
Ed has worked on carbon capture policy and projects since 2008, including as a lead consultant to Shell's Quest CCS project, and removal policy in Canada since 2018 as a public policy consultant and advocate. He founded and led the multi-sector coalition that successfully advocated for Canada's CCUS Investment Tax Credit, and has advised a variety of industry associations on federal tax and contract-for-difference policy. Ed served on the federal government's CCUS Thought Leaders Senior Reference Group to provide advice on Canada's first carbon management strategy, helped to found Carbon Removal Canada, the first NGO focused exclusively on carbon removal in Canada, and is a Stripe Climate Fellow working to establish national and global Advanced Market Commitment Initiatives for CDR.
