Maya Douglas
Senior Manager, ESG Law
KPMG
After more than 15 years working in sustainability and ESG, Maya helps organizations mitigate greenwashing and legal risk. Her focus is on the intersection of strategy, performance, and disclosure. Since writing her first sustainability report in 2013, Maya’s toolbox extends beyond the four corners of a report to encompass governance, enterprise risk, internal audit, assurance, communications as well as shareholder activism, institutional investment, and insurance risk. With a multidisciplinary team at KPMG Law LLP, Maya helps organizations of all shapes and sizes assess reports and communications to evaluate disclosure obligations and mitigate at-risk claim. Her clients span across key sectors including energy, resources, utilities, financial services, consumer and retail business, travel and aviation, and among others, as well as industry and governmental organizations and associations.
Maya holds a Masters in International Law with a focus on climate change from the University of Edinburgh Law School in Scotland (2009). Since then, she gained credentials such as the LEED Green Associate and the Environmental Professional (EP) designation, specializing in Sustainability. In 2024, she completed the Climate Risk and ESG for Corporate Governance program at UBC Allard School of Law, and in 2025, Maya was one of 10 to receive the YWE Award recognizing women in Alberta's energy industry who demonstrate exceptional leadership and who are ‘changing the face of energy’.
