Cascade Trading

Mittal has over 17 years of North American environmental commodities market experience as a trader, originator, analyst and structurer. Mittal started his career at BP and subsequently worked at TransAlta, Capital Power, Direct Energy and Goldman Sachs prior to joining Cascade.


Following his passion for environmental commodities, Mittal became a trader in European Carbon Allowances and US SOx credits at TransAlta. Building on this success, Mittal expanded his trading and origination activities into California and US North East compliance carbon, US and Canadian Renewable Energy Certificates (REC), and voluntary carbon credits to build a multimillion dollar US carbon trading business from scratch at Capital Power. Mittal then headed the North American carbon, and western US & Canadian REC trading businesses at Direct Energy where he led Direct Energy's entrance in emerging growth markets such as RNG, RINs and LCFS.



In Fall of 2021, he was hired by Goldman Sachs to head the North American environmental commodities business where he was the global market maker for North American carbon. He also developed their business in RECs, and global voluntary offset trading. He then joined Cascade Trading as the Chief Energy Transition Officer in 2023 to lead the firm's initiatives in environmental commodities trading, origination and principal investments.
